Fitsum Sitotaw holds an LL.M. (Master of Laws) and an LL.B. (Bachelor of Laws)  from Addis Ababa University, School of Law. Fitsum obtained different certificates in international law and arbitration from Leiden University. He was the first runner-up at the 18th ICRC Humanitarian Law Essay Competition among 58 African University students.

He has experience in the NGO sector and served as a teaching assistant at Addis Ababa University. He also has prior legal experience as an associate and a researcher at another law office.
